Suddenly no H264 video (v0.5a or v0.6d on Win10)

Messagede W6HHC » Sam 6 Mai 2017 23:37

My MiniTiouner had been working perfectly with H264 video on DVB-S using v0.5a through early March. I recently tried to test H.264 with Portsdown using DATV-Express as modulator and discovered H264 is no longer displaying video on MiniTiouner on Win10?

* Mpeg-2 - video displays correctly
* H264 - displays an error message "no video or bad CODEC/PID"
* H265 - video displays correctly

These results are the same using Portsdown/DATV-Express or using DATV-Express board by itself on Windows10.
I reinstalled v0.5a and also installed the newer v0.6d with no improvement.

DATV-Express v1.23 DVB-S transmission using H.264 displays MiniTioune error "no Video or bad CODECs/PID"

The GRAPH indicator is green and I get the same results with LAV codecs or using MS codecs.
Also, MiniTioune can record a GOOD TS file with H.264 transmission that plays OK video on Window Media Player.

Are there any suggestions on the cause of this problem on my 32-bit Win10 notebook?...de Ken W6HHC

something to try, that will tell us more information:

if you send the TS using the UDP button, can VLC decode the H264 video?

I am not sure that I know how to correctly perform the steps with VLC that you have suggested...but I did do these steps below:
1) I have installed VLC onto my 32-bit Dell Win10 notebook with MiniTiouner also installed.

2) I can open the MiniTiouner TS file of my H.264 reception with VLC player and the video display is perfect.

3) Using one of your earlier posts on using UDP button I have displayed video on VLC (see JPEG)....but still can NOT display H264 video on MiniTiouner.

VLC displays H.264 video perfectly using the UDP button when setting up VLC "network stream" to udp://@127.0.0.1:1234

Also, I installed MiniTiouner v0.6d onto my 32-bit Win10 DESKTOP computer and was NOT able to display any MiniTioune video using H.264.

your thoughts?...de Ken W6HHC

Hello Ken,

When you send the TS using UDP and receive it with VLC, if VLC can show it that confirm that the problem is with the graphand the decoder that is used.
Could you show and capture the "newdecod H264.grf" file that has been created in the Minitioune directory graph?

if you send me the grf file and a 10 sec sample of the TS received, I could analyze it and understand what is wrong.

Hi Jean-Pierre F6DZP,

I have sent the TS file and the newdecodH264.grf file to you by private e-mail

OK we have found the problem:
when I look at your "newdecod H264.grf" file, I see that the video out pin of the Microsoft demultiplexer says that it is a Mpeg2 video.
So it is norma that it can't decod the H264 encoded video.

so your "decod H264.grf" file is corrupted, you have just to take the good one that is in the Minitioune package.

Thank you Jean-Pierre F6DZP,

SUCCESS! My H.264 problem was "self-inflicted". While modifying the MiniTioune decodeH264.grf file (to suggest LAV filters to Win10), I accidently corrupted the file.

The test set-up is using RPi-3/Portsdown/DATV-Express.

The H.264 problem allowed me to learn two new skills:
1) How to use the MiniTioune UDP feature with VLC
2) How to use GraphStudioNext software to analyze graphs with more detail
