Minitioune software questions

Hi JP,

I've several questions re MiniT software.

I have looked everywhere I could think of to find an explanation, but not found what I need.
Do you have or know where I can find a description of the various settings?

I hope you can help.

Is there any documentation that would answer the questions below (even in French)

1) I'd like to set web monitoring to Auto when the program starts - can I do this?

2) What is the difference between mode a and mode b in the symbol rate box?

3) Does the bandwidth slider work with the serit tuner - the new one BATC are supplying?
Can it be set to less than 10MHZ?

4) What the hek is a derotator?

5) How does the box "scan strategy" work?
I thought at first it was the scan parameters for the PLL in the tuner but I have monitored the tuners PLL frequency and see that it does not change as these settings are changed.

Is it something to do with the symbol rate / DVBS scanning?

6) Can I turn off the TV mode so it only looks at DVB-S

7) What does the 1 search button do in scan strategy

8) What does the width box next to symbol rate change

9) What does PLL correction do?

I'm really sorry for all these questions JP.

I will add something to the BATC wiki to help others if you can be so kind as to help me here.

Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I am travelling to Paris for the annual Amsat FR meeting and be back on Monday.

Quicky:

1) I'd like to set web monitoring to Auto when the program starts - can I do this?
No but I can add this option in the .ini file for the Minitioune version 8 I am working.
( it's time to add more wishes if you have some)

2) What is the difference between mode a and mode b in the symbol rate box?
It corresponds to 2 different algorithms that the derotator can use to find the Symbol Rate.

3) Does the bandwidth slider work with the serit tuner - the new one BATC are supplying?
I suppose ( I can't test again today)
Can it be set to less than 10MHZ?

NO, this is the lowest value that can be set. Sorry, it is the tuner chip that do the job and it is made for broadcast stations...

4) What the hek is a derotator?
The double PLL that works to find and lock the SR and the Frequency.
if the derotator is switch OFF, you will see the constellation in perpetual rotation, you will see a beautiful ring. So the derotator lock the signal the constellations stop to turn, stop the rotation. That's why it is called a derotator.

5) How does the box "scan strategy" work? it is already describe somewhere on the site. I have spent many time to explain it, I think also that it is on a presentation I have made to the BATC annual meeting. Look at their archives.

6) Can I turn off the TV mode so it only looks at DVB-S
I think no, I will check again .

7) What does the 1 search button do in scan strategy
same answer as 5)

8) What does the width box next to symbol rate change
nothing. it is just an information about the bandwidth the signal you are receiving is using.

9) What does PLL correction do?
It has also been already explained with 5) and 7)
This is use when you want to receive a signal from an amateur modulator not well filtered ( principally the PiDATV stations that had not a good Nyquist filter at the beginning of the story) Normally, if the signal is correct you don't have to change something, but sometimes it can help at low SR.

Thanks JP,

I'll look up the BATC site - already had a look but didn't find what I was wanting the first time.

Nice to hear a new version is coming - I'll give it some thought and also ask the guys around me.

Hello,

I have found a text where I explained in June 2015 how to use the scan strategy.

Hello JP,

THANKS, that was just what I was looking for.

Now another small problem I have.

I was experimenting with the scan strategy box to see how fast the picture locked when a station is tuned in.

Using Minitioune v 0.7b
All values as your INI file downloaded with V7b, but I have changed SR1 to 333, and frequency 2 to 1315026 with offsetvalue 00000000, and enabled FEC2/3 with a 1, and expertmode = 1.

I running on a 64 bit Windoze 7 machine.

I have a Portsdown TX running on 1315, H264, SR333 FEC 2/3 with a good clean signal to my MiniT receiver.

I start the program and it shows SR333 and frequency 1255

Then I click ONLY the frequency boxes in this order :-
Click 1315 box and wait till picture displayed. Auto PID works and shows video = 256 and sound = 255.
Click the bottom 437 box, wait till scan starts.
Click 1315 again and wait till picture locked and displaying.
Click bottom 437 box again, and I get these error messages :-

Filter demultiplexer audio pin not found.

When I press OK I get many windows saying:-

operation en virgule flottante incorrecte

I have to use task manager to quit the program.

I note that if I click 1315 and then 437 BEFORE the picture shows, the program does not give the error messages or hang.

Wonder if you have heard of this before JP?

Anything else I can help you with, please ask.

Hello Dave,

I have tried to produce similar error using the same parameters as you( same SR, same freq in same buttons..), I proceed as you say, but never get the error message.

when you change the frequency, the software change the decoding graph you can see the square led GRAPH changing of color)
Filter demultiplexer audio pin not found

that says that, there is an error building the decoding graph.
operation en virgule flottante incorrecte

is sent by some operation inside the decoding graph that does'nt work ( I have not yet find a way to avoid that duplicate message)

You are the first that talk me about that event.
And I cannot have this event on my PC, so it is very difficult to fix this issue.
I don't know why it can create the graph sometimes and can't create it other times...

Is it systematic when you do that sequence of action?
Could you find another situation where you get this error message?

Hello JP,

OK, I may have solved the problem, but more testing is needed.

To avoid confusion, I have two folders on my PC, one for MiniT 0.6 and the other for V0.7
I set up two desktop shortcuts, one for each version.
After I did this I ran the LAV filter install and USRC install programs from within both folders.

The problem still occured when changing frequencies on V0.7
I actually didn't try V0.6 at this time.

I did the following to (maybe) solve my problem.
1) In the 0.6 folder I reinstalled LAV filters and ran the USRC install program again.
V 0.6 runs fine.
2) I copied the new INI file from V0.7 into the 0.6 folder.
V 0.6 runs fine.
3) I copied the V0.7 EXE file into the 0.6 folder and modified the shortcut to point to this program.

After doing this I haven't had the V0.7 program WHEN RUN IN THE V0.6 FOLDER give the errors (up to now) - more testing to do).

If I run the V0.7 program from within the V0.7 folder the problem still occurs.

I wonder if the USRC install program has only to be run from the folder where both MiniT versions are located?

YES, I KNOW!

Your installation instructions are quite clear, in that you say to copy the new INI file and EXE file into the same folder as 0.6 was installed. I was trying to keep the two versions seperate in case I messed one of them up.

BIG SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope this topic may just help someone else who doesn't follow your instructions to the letter!
